Sec. 14-212g. Work zone safety account.

  • (a) There is established an account to be known as the “work zone safety account” which shall be a separate, nonlapsing account within the Special Transportation Fund. The account shall contain any moneys required by law to be deposited in the account. Moneys in the account shall be expended by the Department of Transportation to protect the safety of workers in highway work zones, as defined in section 14-212d, through (1) highway traffic enforcement, including, but not limited to, the expansion of the “Operation Big Orange” program, and (2) the purchase and implementation of technology and equipment. Any use of moneys in the work zone safety account by the department, other than for the “Operation Big Orange” program or direct traffic enforcement in work zones, shall be approved by the Highway Work Zone Safety Advisory Council, as described in section 14-212e.

    (b) Upon receipt of the moneys paid pursuant to subdivisions (4) and (5) of subsection (b) of section 13b-61, the State Treasurer shall transfer nine thousand dollars of such moneys monthly to the work zone safety account established in subsection (a) of this section.

(a) by repositioning provision re expenditures to protect safety of workers in highway work zones, designating existing provision re highway traffic enforcement as Subdiv. (1), adding Subdiv.
